NBA Rumors: Knicks Put Carmelo Anthony Trade On Hold
Over the last few months, it has seemed like a foregone conclusion that the New York Knicks would trade superstar Carmelo Anthony. Although Anthony has a no-trade clause, the team was ready to work with him to deal him elsewhere and wearing a Houston Rockets jersey appeared to be in his near future.
Despite reports that a trade was near, the Knicks brass has taken another course of action. According to Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, New York has put trade talks on hold in an attempt to get Anthony to stay:
The New York Knicks are pausing trade talks centered on Carmelo Anthony and want to pursue a conversation with the 10-time NBA All-Star about possibly reincorporating him into the organization, league sources told ESPN.
The situation in New York seems to be very dysfunctional with no clear indication as to what the team wants to do. One minute the Knicks are dead set on trading Anthony and finally get him to be sent elsewhere, and the next minute they want him back.
After flirting with the idea of playing alongside LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers or Chris Paul and James Harden with the Rockets, Anthony may continue to push for the trade and could have already come to terms with ending his New York tenure.
Whether or not Anthony ultimately agrees to stay or forces his way to Houston, Cleveland or another team remains to be seen. Only time will tell if this gets resolved now or before the NBA trade deadline in February.
