Kyrie Irving-Isaiah Thomas Trade Could Be Voided
The Boston Celtics made a bold move earlier this week by trading for superstar point guard Kyrie Irving. The storied NBA franchise sent a trade package centered around perennial All-Star Isaiah Thoma.
Although many thought Irving would get traded at some point during the NBA offseason, the Celtics being the recipient was surprising, to say the least. Many believed the Cleveland Cavaliers would send him to a Western Conference. Obviously, that didn’t happen, and now it seems the trade may not go down due to the results of Thomas’ physical, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
After All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas underwent a physical examination in Cleveland on Friday, uncertainty over the fitness of his injured hip has Cavaliers officials evaluating the results and considering possible ramifications to the blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics earlier this week, league sources said.
If the blockbuster trade ultimately falls through, Irving may have to find new a team. Rather, the Cavaliers would have to take on that task with a lot of fans in Cleveland already having moved on and Celtics fans voicing their displeasure after publicly burning Thomas’ jersey.
Needless to say, this situation could get help ugly. Both teams seemed to get a good deal out of the trade with both fan bases relatively happened with the move.
Unfortunately, the once-promising trade has a major flaw with Thomas’ health being a potential issue. It’ll be interesting to see how all this pans out and the impact it may have on both teams moving forward.
