Paul George believes Thunder is a ‘championship team’ after Carmelo Anthony trade
The Oklahoma City Thunder made some drastic moves over the summer to build this franchise back into a legitimate title contender in the Western Conference. The first move was to acquire Paul George from the Indiana Pacers and the second was getting Carmelo Anthony from the New York Knicks.
With both of these trades having been completed and the Thunder now revamped with two more star players, George believes Oklahoma City is a championship team moving forward, via Sam Amick of USA Today.
“This feels like a championship team,†George told USA TODAY Sports. “I’m in a good place. I know Russ (Westbrook) is in a good place. Melo is motivated more than ever…You put us three together, who all have something to prove still, (and) we’re going to be a special team. We have a young group, a lot of talent here, an unbelievable coach (in Billy Donovan), (and) as you see, a front office that’s willing to do whatever it takes to improve the team. It just has all the makeups to be a great organization and a chance to put championships together.â€
Although the Thunder’s roster is vastly improved with two more proven stars alongside reigning NBA MVP Russell Westbrook, it remains to be seen whether these three can coexist. All three of these star players are used to having the ball in their hands to be successful, and now they have to share with not one but two ball-dominant players on the floor at the same time.
On paper, this team should pose the toughest challenge to Golden State Warriors in the West. However, there’s no telling how this superstar trio will work together and if it is the ideal match in Oklahoma City.
