NFL Week 6: Early odds to watch

5. Detroit Lions at New Orleans Saints (-4.5)

The Vegas oddsmakers are treating this game like the Saints are better than the Lions on a neutral field. While New Orleans has certainly shown something over the past two games (beating the Panthers and Dolphins), the Lions are a good team coming off a tough loss. Look for Detroit to cover the spread, with the Lions being able to throw all day against the Saints secondary.

4. Miami Dolphins at Atlanta Falcons (-11)

Normally, you don’t like swallowing so many points. Then again, getting the Falcons coming off a loss, coming off a bye, at home, isn’t exactly normal. once you factor in that they are playing the Miami Dolphins, you have to believe a cover is in store here. Jay Cutler played an awful Tennessee defense last weekend, and only threw for 96 yards. Atlanta should be able to run up 30 points or more on the Dolphins, and Cutler has shown no ability to keep up.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers at Kansas City Chiefs (-4)

Kansas City is the only unbeaten team in the NFL, and it gets the struggling Steelers in Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs have been terrific this year, scoring more points than any team in the league on their way to an impressive 5-0 start. Furthermore, Kansas City is 8-2 in its last 10 games at Arrowhead, and this year, has covered all five spreads presented to it. The Steelers are out of rhythm and the defense has struggled to stop the run, a major problem against Kareem Hunt, the NFL’s leading rusher.

2. New York Giants at Denver Broncos (-11.5)

This is a very interesting game from a gambling perspective (and only form that perspective). The Broncos are clearly the better team, something we see in the week’s biggest line. Denver is at home and healthy, coming off a bye, playing the 0-5 Giants. New York is without Brandon Marshall and Odell Beckham Jr., both of whom suffered season-ending injuries on Sunday. Still, the Giants have a very good defense, going against a really mediocre Denver offense. The Broncos win, but they don’t cover, because the Giants score six points, and Denver doesn’t get to 17.

1. Cleveland Browns at Houston Texans (-9.5)

One more big line to close this puppy out. The Texans are down Whitney Mercilus and J.J. Watt, but they have Deshaun Watson slinging the ball all over the park. Houston is desperate at 2-3 and welcomes the Browns into NRG Stadium, one of three winless teams in the league. The Texans should get right after losing to the Chiefs on Sunday night. Cleveland isn’t sure who its quarterback is, and after another loss, might feel the same way about its head coach. Look for the Texans to win big and cover at home.
