LeBron James responds to Draymond Green’s comments about ‘too many minutes’ played
Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors recently made some comments about LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers playing too many minutes and that it will eventually catch up with him.
LeBron has now responded to Green’s comments about his playing time saying the following, via Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com.
“Draymond’s right,†James told cleveland.com, after Green’s comments were relayed to him. “We want to get those minutes down for sure. But as of right now, we’ve had two point guards out and we’ve had some different lineup changes, so, I’ve had to play more minutes than I would like, and more minutes than my teammates would like me to have.â€
Despite the massive amount of minutes he’s played, LeBron is still maintaining a high level of play for the Cavs. Unfortunately, the team has struggled to maintain its form as one of the league’s elite with Cleveland only one game over .500 at 8-7.
Although LeBron is still playing at a level he’s become accustomed to, Green does have a point with the superstar not getting any younger at 32 and him needing to do more and more with the Cavs not looking like the dominant force of old.
According to Vardon, LeBron is playing the most minutes per game he’s played since his first season with the Miami Heat back in 2010.
James’ minutes have been a frequent topic of discussion since his return to Cleveland four seasons ago. The 38.1 are the most he’s played since 2010-11 — his first year with the Miami Heat, when he logged 38.8 per night. But James’ playing time spiked last season from the year before, up two full minutes to 37.8.
Fortunately for James, the three-time NBA champion has been able to avoid injuries for the most part throughout his storied career in the NBA and rarely seems to burn out. Of course, Father Time is undefeated and it will eventually catch up with him sooner or later.
