Andrew Luck: More Shoulder Surgery Not Likely Needed

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck said he does not believe he needs to have a second right shoulder surgery. Luck said that after returning from six weeks in the Netherlands where he worked with a trainer.

On Friday, Luck said that his gut feeling tells him he doesn’t need more surgery. He added that he needed to work more and that right now he does not see more surgery as the answer.

Luck, who last January underwent surgery on the right shoulder, traveled to Europe after receiving a cortisone shot and the team stopped him from practicing and then placed him on their injured reserve on November 2 because of the continued soreness he felt in the shoulder.

The Colts signal caller said he did not have any new injections to his shoulder while overseas. He called his time there strictly strength training, rehab, soft tissue work using a trainer he has worked with before and one the team approves of.

Luck said that he had been experiencing pain and it scared him as he remembered last year and that was why he had undergone surgery to begin with.

Luck said that his shoulder now feels more stable and stronger and he has more confidence in it than he did when he returned to Colts practice back in September.

However, the big test for the Colts QB will come when he starts to throw again early next month. He added that he has not thrown a football since the team shut him down late in October.

When he begins to thrown again Luck and the team will know if the quarterback must have more surgery, which if he does could push him back up to six more months.

Luck injured the shoulder during Week 3 of the 2015 regular season. He played four games more that season prior to lacerating a kidney during Week 9 that ended his season.

Luck then reinjured his shoulder when trying to make a tackled following an interception during Week 2 of the 2016 regular season. However, he played 15 out of the 16 games in 2016, with the only game missed due to a concussion.

Luck underwent surgery last January following the season and did not play a single down this season.

When this season ends on Sunday, Luck will have played in just 22 of 48 games over the last three NFL regular seasons.
