Arizona Cardinals to Sign Quarterback Sam Bradford

Sam Bradford is expected to sign a new deal with the Arizona Cardinals, said NFL sources close to the team. He becomes yet another signal caller to change uniforms this offseason.

At this time, the Cardinals have no signed quarterbacks on the roster.

Bradford’s contract is expected to be for just one year at $20 million, with $15 million of the deal guaranteed. As well as that, there is an option for one year at $20 million.

Bradford was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the start of the 2016 regular season after then-starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a season ending knee injury during the preseason.

The veteran signal caller then went on to post the highest completion percentage in the league during that same season with Minnesota. Bradford, who is 30, looked poised to have breakout season in 2017.

However, it did not turn out the way it was planned. After a strong opening game against the Saints, Bradford suffered a knee injury that sent his season into a tailspin.

No structural damage was revealed but it was the same knee that he had suffered two prior ACL tears.

He returned to action briefly during Week 5, but re-aggravated the injury in the first half and was pulled. He then spent about two months on the injured reserved prior to being activated as the backup for Case Keenum during the Vikings postseason.

The former winner of the Heisman Trophy and a 2010 first round draft pick by the St. Louis Rams has earned $114 million during his NFL career, but several injuries have kept him sidelined more often than not. He sat out half the season in 2013 and the entire 2014 season following successive years of tearing the ACL.

Just twice he played all 16 games of a regular season – his rookie season of 2010 and 2012.

Sam Bradford is one of three quarterbacks for the Vikings that will officially be free agents starting Wednesday March 14 the first day of the new NFL season.

During his NFL career, Bradford has started under center in 80 games for the Rams, Eagles, and Vikings. He has 19,049 passing yards, 101 touchdown passes, and a career completion percentage of 62.5%. Bradford has also thrown 57 interceptions and committed 33 fumbles.
