Sam Darnold: ‘It’d be awesome’ to be drafted by the Browns
The 2018Â NFL Draft is right around the corner. There is a lot of speculation brewing about which quarterbacks will be taken in the first round. Although there are a lot of top-tier quarterbacks heading in this draft class, there’s a chance three of them could be taken in the first three picks one of which being USC’s Sam Darnold who is in the running for the Cleveland Browns at No. 1.
Cleveland has the top selection in this year’s draft. It seems almost certain at this point that they’ll take a quarterback with DeShone Kizer not working out as planned. Darnold is in the running along with UCLA’s Josh Rosen and Josh Allen out of Wyoming. The former Trojans star recently talked about whether he’d like to play for Cleveland, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
“It’d be awesome to go No. 1, just because I think what the Browns are doing is really good right now and I think they have potential to be a really good team in the future,” Darnold told ESPN after his Pro Day. “Just based on that, yeah, a part of me really wants to go 1. But at the same time, if they don’t want me and they don’t pick me, that’s the best situation. Because I don’t want to go to a team that doesn’t want me.”

With things constantly changing leading up to draft day, the consensus could change with Darnold falling behind Allen and Rosen or another quarterback like Lamar Jackson or Baker Mayfield drawing the attention of the Browns at No. 1.
At this point, Darnold is looking more and more like the top prospect in this year’s draft and the favorite to be taken with the first pick. The first round of the draft will get underway on April 26.
