NFL Draft 2018: Dolphins, Bills could fight for QBs
The NFL Draft will begin on April 26, leaving us a bit more the three weeks out from the Cleveland Browns going on the clock. Of course, the Browns are expected to take a quarterback at the top, with either Sam Darnold, Josh Allen or perhaps even Josh Rosen getting the call.
After that, anything is possible. So what should we actually expect? Here are some morsels to get you thinking as we head toward the NFL Draft.
NFL Draft 2018: Thoughts and observations
- Whatever the New York Giants do with the second-overall pick is going to shape the rest of the draft. New York could take Quentin Nelson, Saquon Barkley, Bradley Chubb or even a quarterback to replace 37-year-old Eli Manning. The Giants could also trade out of the pick, something that would shape things up further. The guess here? The Buffalo Bills end up picking second, much to the chagrin of the New York Jets.
- The Arizona Cardinals won’t draft a quarterback in the first round, and people will be left scratching their heads. Arizona might be the only team in the NFC that doesn’t have a solid quarterback in place (Manning, perhaps). So the obvious move for general manager Steve Keim would be adding one early. However, the Cardinals pick 17th, and so landing one of the top four signal-callers would require a major move. Arizona has never shown aggressiveness in the draft, so it’s tough to predict it now.

- Don’t be shocked if the Pittsburgh Steelers take a running back on Day 2. General manager Kevin Colbert found Le’Veon Bell on the second day, plucking him out of Michigan State. With Bell on his second franchise tag and the team capped out, the Steelers might try to find his replacement, perhaps with the idea of using Bell for the 2018 season before allowing him to leave. Bell has been great, but he’s also had injuries and suspensions, and Pittsburgh might be ready to move on.
- Look for the Miami Dolphins to make a real play for a new quarterback. Ryan Tannehill is entering his 30s and while his career has been a touch underrated at times, he’s never proven himself capable of making a deep playoff run. With Adam Gase and the front office on the hot seat, the Dolphins could make a push to land Rosen or Baker Mayfield, giving them both appeal to fans while buying everyone a bit of time. It wouldn’t be a complete shock if the AFC East is rolling with three rookie quarterbacks at some point in 2018.
