Ravens sign Robert Griffin III on the cheap
The Baltimore Ravens shocked the NFL world on Wednesday when news broke that they had signed former No. 2 overall pick, Robert Griffin III.
He’s going to be the backup to Joe Flacco, obviously. But when you realize how cheap a deal he signed, that is all the more plain to see.
The #Ravens signed reserve QB Robert Griffin III to a 1-year deal with a base salary of $1M, source said. There is a small signing bonus in addition to the base. Minimal risk, possible high reward.

As noted by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, this deal is very favorable for Baltimore. Very little risk involved, and if RG3 somehow returns to the form that won him the Heisman Trophy and landed him atop the 2012 NFL Draft and earned him the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award, that’s a bonus.
That said, now we understand why head coach John Harbaugh said the Ravens “got a steal†landing Griffin. This contract is dirt cheap by NFL standards. Clearly, Griffin has a long way to go and a lot to prove before he’ll be viewed as a viable quarterback in the NFL again.
RG3 last played in 2016, appearing in five games for the Cleveland Browns.
