Cardinals receive concerning update on QB Kyler Murray
The Arizona Cardinals will move forward this season without quarterback Kyler Murray, as his foot injury hasn’t progressed enough to get him back on the field.
Murray received another opinion on the injury on Wednesday, which confirmed that the additional tests showed his foot wasn’t healing in the manner the team had hoped.
“It wasn’t progressing in a way that we wanted, so we went and got a different opinion, some different people and kind of looked at it, and it’s just not right,” Gannon said via ESPN.
The injury occurred in the Week 5 loss against the Tennessee Titans. Murray was later placed on the injured reserve on Nov.5, which led to his first time being eligible to practice in a three-week window beginning on Wednesday.
Murray will miss the rest of the season with uncertainty around his long-term future with the franchise. He has struggled to perform with consistency, while injuries have become a persistent issue.
Over the last three seasons, he has missed 20 games while playing one full season. In five games this year, he completed 110 of 161 passes for a 68.3 completion rate with six touchdowns and three interceptions and held an 88.6 passer rating.

In July 2022, he inked a five-year, $230.5 million extension that can keep him under contract through the 2028 season. Murray’s contract could become a huge factor in determining his future in Arizona beyond this season.
It holds significant dead cap hits over the next few years, with $53.2 million in 2026, but drops to $7.2 million in 2027. It’s certainly something to watch over the offseason as Murray could have a new NFL home.
