Falcons’ Deion Jones Placed on Injured Reserve

The Atlanta Falcons have placed linebacker Deion Jones on injured reserve following medical tests, according to NFL.com.

Deion Jones, one of the Atlanta Falcons’ best defensive players, experienced foot pain after the season opener against the Eagles.

The injury will require surgery, head coach Dan Quinn announced in a statement on Tuesday:

“Following the game last Thursday, Deion reported soreness in his foot, so we sent him for further tests,” he said.

“We got the results of those tests back today, and he unfortunately will require a procedure that will result in us having to place him on injured reserve.

“We are bummed for Deion, but we do expect to get him back at some point this season. He represents all that we are looking for in a Falcon player, and while he will not be on the field for us right now, he will continue to have a presence in our building.”

This is a blow for the Atlanta Falcons, considering how strongly Deion Jones performed last season. He earned a Pro Bowl selection while leading the Falcons defense in tackles. Jones is a crucial cog in the Falcons defensive unit that ranked in the top 10 last season.

As well as being a great defensive player, Jones has playmaking ability on top of that. His habit for making big plays will be missed as Atlanta aim to make the postseason this year.

However, he will not be out for the entire season. So there is an opportunity to make do until he is available to play again.

Before they re-activate him on their roster, he must spend six weeks on IR and practice for two weeks.

The day before, the Falcons placed safety Keanu Neal on injured reserve with a torn ACL.
