Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jimmy Butler is requesting a trade, and his three preferred destinations are the Brooklyn Nets, LA Clippers and New York Knicks, league sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
Each of these potential landing spots resides in a major market where Butler desires while holding the ability to give him a huge max contract on his next deal that would be a five-year deal that could be worth up $190 million next summer. The 29-year-old is clearly not happy with his current situation, which has brewed over after just one season as the Timberwolves traded for him during last year’s draft.

Butler is currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $92.3 million deal that has a $ 19.8 million player option for that will allow for him to test the open market next summer. Butler is expected to attract plenty of attention around the league as he has already been linked to several different teams prior to this latest development such as the Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Boston Celtics.
Although team president and head coach Tom Thibodeau has no interest in moving Butler, things could quickly pick up on this front in the coming days ahead of training camp to resolve this issue.
