5 underdogs to bet in NFL Week 4

We are already entering NFL Week 4, which is incredible since yesterday it was basically the start of training camp. Alas, we go forward with the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams kicking things off on Thursday night.

While we’ll stay away from that game, here are five underdogs that make for a good bet on Sunday afternoon. As always, all the NFL Week 4 lines are courtesy of OddsShark.

5. Cleveland Browns

The Browns are going on the road, taking on the Oakland Raiders as three-point underdogs at the Coliseum. Here’s the thing. We aren’t sure if the Browns are good, even with Baker Mayfield under center, but we know the Raiders stink. The team has led at the half in each of its first three games and still found a way to lose them all. Oakland might squeak by here at home, but the Browns are a good bet if you’re looking for an underdog.

4. Detroit Lions

The Lions are playing the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium, and like the Browns, are getting a field goal. Look, neither the Lions or the Cowboys are going to the Super Bowl without tickets this season, but Detroit has better personnel offensively and can pass for average defensively. Dak Prescott is yet to throw for 200 yards in a single game, so if the Lions can manage to choke off Ezekiel Elliott, Detroit has a good shot at evening its record.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers are also getting a field goal, playing the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Chicago has one of the best defenses in football led by Khalil Mack, but the offense is nothing to write home about. Mitchell Trubisky has been awful for the most part in the early going of 2018, struggling to find the open man. If the Buccaneers and specifically Ryan Fitzpatrick can avoid turnovers, they have a good chance to walk out of the Windy City at 3-1.

2. Miami Dolphins

If the Dolphins find a way to beat the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium this week, we have to take them seriously as a contender and certainly the AFC East favorite. Still, while it’s somewhat grand to expect a win, the Dolphins should be able to cover the 6.5-point spread. Miami has a ton of speed on offense with Kenyon Drake, Albert Wilson and others, something the Patriots’ defense won’t handle well. Look for Miami to score its points on Sunday.

1. New York Jets

The Jets aren’t going to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road unless Blake Bortles goes full Bortles (you never, EVER, want to go full Bortles). Still, because of the lackluster quarterback play from the Jaguars, the Jets have a good chance of covering the 7.5-point spread, even if it’s just a back-door cover.
