Steelers running back James Conner makes NFL history

In the absence of star running back Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers second-year running back James Conner has taken full advantage of the situation.

Conner ranked up another impressive outing in the 23-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens tallying 107 rushing yards along with seven catches for 56 receiving yards and a touchdown. According to ESPN, this has pushed him into a territory of his own in NFL history in a single season.

Conner is the first player in league history to produce four games of 100-plus rushing yards, 50-plus receiving yards and a touchdown in a single season, according to NFL stats.

He has more than brought stability to the table at the position producing like an elite running back in the league. Conner is currently second in the league with 706 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns while he has 38 receptions for 379 receiving yards and a touchdown. He is also the only player in franchise history with at least 1,000 scrimmage yards and 10 total touchdowns in the first eight games of a season.

The 23-year-old has proven to be an all-purpose running back that has been a major part in helping the Steelers turn it around. He was initially met with the daunting task of trying to fill the void left by Bell, who has established himself as one of the best running backs in the league and has more than exceeded those expectations in front of him.

Conner will have a chance to build on his impressive start Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers.
