Giants Future in Doubt for Eli Manning
The New York Giants future of Eli Manning is in doubt after general manager Dave Gettleman spoke about the quarterback.
Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Gettleman was non-committal on whether or not Eli Manning would be a Giant next year.
Although, he did mention an “extensive, no holds-barred†conversation he had with Eli Manning. According to Gettleman, Manning himself sought the conversation after the Giants finished 5 – 11 on the season.
“I’m committed to making the best decision in the interest of the Giants,†Gettleman said.

Manning, turned 38 on Thursday, ranks eighth among NFL passing touchdowns leaders (360 touchdowns).
“We’re in the evaluation process. … Everything is on the table for us,†said Gettleman.
“We’re trying to build sustained success. That takes brutal honesty and some tough decisions. It wasn’t like he was called to the principal’s office. He came to see me.â€
Over his career, which began in 2004, Manning has been remarkably consistent in the NFL. Of his 232 appearances, 230 of those games have been starts. He has one year left on his $11.5 million contract.
He finished the 2018 season with 4,299 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. As well as that, he completed 66% of his passes, which is a career-best figure.
It’s not encouraging to hear Gettleman skirt around the issue, although Manning still has support from his coach.
Giants coach Pat Shurmur spoke about the quarterback after the Giants fell out of playoff contention in Week 15. Shurmur asserted that Manning has ‘years’ left as an NFL starter.

On having Manning around in 2019, Shurmer said, “Yeah. I want all our players to be back. I believe experience matters.â€
There are two other quarterbacks on the Giants roster: Alex Tanney and Kyle Lauletta. Although, the Giants do hold the No. 6 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
