Anthony Davis Fined $50,000 by NBA

Following and NBA investigation, Anthony Davis has been fined for publicly requesting a trade away from the New Orleans Pelicans.

Anthony Davis has been fined $50,000 as a result of comments made by his agent, Rich Paul. Rich Paul told the media that Anthony Davis will refuse a contract extension and that he wants to be traded.

The violated rule was a collectively-bargained policy restricting players or their agents from making public trade demands. The NBA said specifically that the fine was for Rich Paul’s comments to the media.

It was seen as an intentional effort to undermine Davis’ New Orleans Pelicans contract.

Davis was drafted as the first overall pick by the New Orleans Pelicans in 2012. His current contract expires at the end of the 2019 – 2020 season.

Davis has been an NBA All-Star in all of the previous five seasons. In two of his six NBA season, the Pelicans have only made the playoffs twice. As well as that, they have only won one playoff series, against the Portland Trail Blazers.

For such a good player, competing at the top level would have to be a priority. This appears to be the reason for his discontent in new Orleans, per Paul’s comments.

“Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him a chance to win consistently and compete for a championship,” said Rich Paul.

“Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that’s the reason for informing them of this decision now. That’s in the best interests of both Anthony’s and the organisation’s future.”

This season, Davis has averaged 29.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. His New Orleans Pelicans team are 23 – 28 for the season.
