Steve Smith sets aside bitterness as he’s elected to Panthers Hall of Fame
During his NFL career, star wide receiver Steve Smith established himself as one of the top players in the league at his position.
The bulk of that was spent with the Carolina Panthers, where he has now set to be inducted into the team’s Hall of Honor this upcoming season, according to David Newton of ESPN.
Steve Smith can finally set aside the bitterness from being released by the Carolina Panthers in March 2014.
The organization announced Monday that their all-time leading wide receiver would be a part of the 2019 Hall of Honor.
Smith spent his first 13 years in the league with the Panthers, where he became the team’s all-time leader in touchdowns (67), receptions (836) and receiving yards (12,197). He also became the 35th player in NFL history to record 10,000 receiving yards. When he retired from the NFL, he was seventh all-time in all-purpose yards (19,180).
He was a key piece of the puzzle offensively with the Panthers during his time with the franchise. Things had headed south at the end of his tenure with the organization, but it appears that both sides have mended fences that have led to this unique honor being bestowed upon him.
The Panthers have yet to announce when this will take place next season, but there should be a warm reception to help the franchise reach great heights during his time. Smith is set to join quarterback Jake Delhomme, tight end Wesley Walls and offensive tackle Jordan Gross in the Panthers’ Hall of Honor.
