Celtics are the current ‘front-runners’ to sign Kemba Walker
One of the most talked about players that are set to hit the open market has been All-Star point guard Kemba Walker.
Walker will have the opportunity to test free agency for the first time in his career that could attract plenty of suitors. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Boston Celtics have emerged as the frontrunner to sign him to a long-term deal.
The Boston Celtics have emerged as the front-runners to sign Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker in free agency, league sources tell ESPN.
There have also been reports that Walker could agree to a contract as soon as the start of the free agency period on Sunday afternoon. The Celtics appear to be headstrong looking for talent in the backcourt with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving appearing to be out of the door.,
Walker has proven to be one of the league’s most talented point guards and has become a mainstay as an All-Star over the last few years despite the Charlotte Hornets lack of success. He is believed to have much interest in staying in Charlotte, but there have been reports that the team doesn’t want to offer him north of $170 million.
This could open the door for the Celtics to swoop in to bring him in free agency. There is certainly much that could change in the coming days, but the fact that Boston has surged to the front of the line is telling of how serious they are in bringing in an All-Star talent to replace Irving and big man Al Horford this offseason.
