Alabama Favored to Win Another SEC Title

Over the last 10 seasons, the Alabama Crimson Tide has won six SEC championships. As a result, odds makers believe the Tide will win the conference title again in 2019.

However, do not expect the Tide to run away and hide, last season four other teams in the SEC won 10 or more games. Sportsbooks have Alabama as the -165 favorite with the Georgia Bulldogs next up at +280 followed by the Florida Gators (+1200), LSU Tigers (+1400) and Auburn Tigers (+2500) rounding out the top 5 best odds.

The second five includes the Kentucky Wildcats, Texas A&M Aggies and Mississippi State Bulldogs all at +3300, and the Tennessee Volunteers and South Carolina Gamecocks at +6600. The remaining two schools are Vanderbilt and Ole Miss at +15000 each.

Since Nick Saban took over as head coach of Alabama the Tide has amassed a record 146-21 that includes a conference record of 80-13. Only in Saban’s first year with Alabama did the team finish with fewer than 10 wins and a losing conference record. Under the tutelage of Saban, the Tide has won the national title five times.

This season, Alabama’s schedule is a favorable one with the Tide hosting LSU, but Alabama does have to play the Iron Bowl in Auburn to end the regular season.

Tua Tagovailoa returns at quarterback for the Tide, as do running back Najee Harris and top receiver Jerry Jeudy. Defensively, Alabama lost top talent, but as has been the norm under Saban, plenty of talent returns with Anfernee Jennings and Dylan Moses the top two returnees.

Georgia appears to be the one team that could give Alabama a run for the SEC crown. The Bulldogs are 32-10 under Kirby Smart and 18-6 in SEC play. Georgia has double-digit wins the last two seasons and identical 7-1 records in the SEC in each of those two seasons with trips to the SEC title game both years.

Georgia will face a tough challenge against Notre Dame in Week 4, as well as in Week 9 versus Florida and Week 11 versus Auburn. The Bulldogs will host the Fighting Irish but will play on the road against both the Gators and Tigers.

Jack Fromm returns under center and top running back D’Andre Swift is back as well, while on defensive several top players return.

The remaining teams in the SEC this season are a distant third behind the Tide and Bulldogs.
