5 things to remember from Week 3 of the NFL preseason
5. The NFL preseason is almost over
Yeah, it’s a copout. Sue me. The third week of the preseason is always said to be a dress rehearsal for the real thing. Guess what? It’s over, which means we only have one more week of this complete nonsense until the real games get underway. If you claim not to be excited on both fronts, you either don’t love football or are a complete and total liar. Let’s move on.
4. Winston has no chance if Bucs don’t improve
The Cleveland Browns basically lived in the same uniform as Jameis Winston this weekend, hitting him on almost every drop back. If the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to do anything this season, they need to give Winston a few seconds to throw without being banged around. They couldn’t do that against Cleveland, who hit him early and often. By game’s end, the Browns had seven sacks.

3. Patrick Mahomes still looks incredible
Mahomes was lackluster in Kansas City’s Week 2 defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers, completing only 2-of-5 passes for 11 yards. On Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers, Mahomes came out firing, hitting a 61-yard touchdown pass on a wheel route to running back Damien Williams. The reigning MVP only played for two series and led the Chiefs to a 10-7 lead before the starters were pulled. All told, Mahomes finished the night 8-of-10 for 126 yards with a score.
2. One series was too many for the Texans
Lamar Miller sat out the first two preseason games rehabbing from injury. The Texans’ running back then took one handoff against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night and blew out his ACL, putting him on the shelf for the season. It’s a tough blow for Houston, which also lost starting guard Zach Fulton to turf toe. All told, the Texans are now down a pair of starters — one obviously longer than the other — while they try to Mae another run towards an AFC South title.

1. Andrew Luck stunnerÂ
How could this not be at the top of the list? Andrew Luck is arguably one of the five best quarterbacks in the game today, and along with Patrick Mahomes was on the short list of many to win the MVP this season. Now, shockingly and suddenly, Luck is retired. The Colts are left to put their Super Bowl hopes on Jacoby Brissett, who while a talented backup, has nowhere near the skill set his predecessor did. It’s arguably the most surprising retirement announcement in NFL history.
