Dez Bryant to Contact NFL Teams in Two Weeks

It’s been five years since free agent Dez Bryant was a dominant wide receiver in the NFL. The last year in particular has been a long road of recovery.

Dez Bryant took the league by storm from 2012 – 2014. In that time, he amassed over 1,200 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns a season. His prowess earned him a first-team All-Pro selection in 2014 after he lead the league in touchdowns with 16.

The Dallas Cowboys signed him to a 5-year, $70 million contract in July 2015. However, that was the peak for Dez Bryant as injuries began to take their toll. His average yards per game decreased from 82 from 2012 – 2014 to 53.6 from 2015 – 2017. He also missed 10 games through injury.

Bryant hasn’t played a regular season game since 2017. Following that 69 catches / 838 yards, 6 touchdown season, the Dallas Cowboys released him in the offseason.

Bryant appeared to have landed on his feet when he signed with the New Orleans Saints at the start of last season. However, he suffered a torn Achilles in his first practice.

Now, a year on, Bryant wants to find a new team.

Bryant announced his intentions on Twitter on Wednesday, acknowledging that he won’t walk into a team and start.

“I’m not trying to go nowhere and be a starter on a team I want to contribute because I know I will be able too… I’m feeling good… in two weeks I’m going to reach out to teams and see what happens…. let’s go X”

Bryant falls squarely into the ‘depth chart’ category of players. While he may no longer take the NFL by storm, his experience could prove vital for whatever team takes him.
