New York Knicks Struggles Don’t Hurt NBA – Silver
No franchise has floundered more than the New York Knicks over the past two decades. It currently faces a seventh-straight year without making the playoffs.
The NBA dumpster fire team for this year is the faltering Golden State Warriors with 4 – 19 record. However, they are the only team with a worse record than the New York Knicks, who are on 4 – 17.Â
The New York Knicks are in a much worse slump, having averaged only 27 wins in their last six seasons. Since making the playoffs every year from 2010 – 2013, the Knicks haven’t won more than 37 games in a year.
Things are so bad that NBA commissioner Adam Silver was asked if he would step in to help one of the league’s original teams.

“I wouldn’t. It’s not my role,” Silver said.
“Of course, I work for 30 teams. And the 29 other teams want to beat that team. That’s not to say me getting involved [would be good] and that I’m in any better position to know what to do. We set the rules. And then we try to have a level playing field for the teams to compete.”
However, it can’t be ignored that in New York, one of the NBA’s biggest media markets is underperforming. While Silver acknowledges this, he doesn’t believe that it hurts the league as a whole.

“I would just say it would obviously be great in the country’s largest media market to have a high performing team, one that’s winning more games on the floor. But at the same time, increasingly with every game available through digital media, league pass, apps, national broadcasts – I think the market is less significant than it used to be. All things being equal, sure you’d like to see big city teams be successful. At the end of the day, you want to see teams compete the best they can.”
