Tom Brady Future Unknown, Even To Him
Tom Brady has no idea where he’s going to be playing in 2020.
While that seems impossible, the 42-year-old is at the whim of many factors. Which teams are going to use the franchise tag on their quarterbacks (see: Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans)? Which teams are simply going to be more intrigued with going the route of a younger quarterback?
Then there’s the New England Patriots. What are the Patriots going to offer? Is Brady going to get a loving phone call from owner Robert Kraft who makes an emotional appeal? Is that going to be overwhelmed by Bill Belichick giving Brady the cold shoulder? Does Belichick embrace Brady and make everything right?

The situations and possibilities are endless. Absolutely endless.
While free agency begins on March 18 the bachkchanneling has been going on for months. Brady knows what teams he’s interested in talking with, and the Patriots certainly have an idea of what their plan is going to be. Problem is, that doesn’t necessarily mean one side knows the complete and total truth on the other side. With two weeks remaining before free agency begins, posturing is the name of the game.
With six Super Bowls to his name, Brady is unquestionably the greatest quarterback of all time. Hell, he might be the greatest football player of all time, depending on your definition. He has nothing to prove, and while his skills are beginning to erode, they are still prodigious. The California native could decide to return to his home state and play for the Los Angeles Chargers. He could even stop a few miles short and play with the Las Vegas Raiders, something he was jokingly asked about by UFC president Dana White recently while promoting a fight.

Tom Brady, for his part, gave an extremely on-brand, non-committal answer. Per ESPN:
“Right now, I’m just trying to be patient through this process. It’s my first time going through it. In the meantime, I’m going to spend a lot of time with my family over the next 10 to 12 days. We have a little vacation planned, which I’m looking forward to.”
So many options, and while it doesn’t feel like it, so much time.
Brady will parse through his potential landing spots. He’ll talk with the Patriots. He’ll talk with his family. He’ll talk to himself.
For now, the chatter is fine and fun, but it’s mere speculation until further notice.
