Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger ‘throwing without pain’ for first time in years

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a disappointing season in which they struggled to get back on track after veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went down with a season-ending injury. Roethlisberger’s long-term future was put in doubt after that injury, but now it appears he’s ready to get back to work.

Roethlisberger has recovered nicely from his injury and claims to be throwing without pain for the first time in a long time. The Steelers star said the following about his mindset moving forward, via Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“I have no doubts I’m going to be able to come back and play well — none,” Roethlisberger said. “I have complete confidence in that. I’m throwing without pain for the first time in years. Some games, I would have a little pain. Some games, I would have a lot of pain. But in the New England game and the Seattle game [last season], it got to be too much. To be able to throw without pain now? That feels nice. That’s a nice feeling. I know I’m not getting any younger, but I feel younger because I don’t have any pain.”

With so many changes for the Steelers over the past couple of seasons, there’s no telling what the final stretch of Roethlisberger’s career will look like or whether he truly has anything left in the tank.

Only time will tell if Roethlisberger can continue to shoulder the load under center for the iconic NFL franchise and if this team can continue competing for a Super Bowl title in the AFC.
