Nets GM opens up about Kevin Durant’s status moving forward

The entire course of the 2019-20 season has been altered due to the growing concern over the coronavirus. That has pushed any potential of the season resuming back toward at least the middle of the summer.

It has also opened the door for other possibilities around the league, which includes the status of star forward Kevin Durant’s return if the season picks back up. Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks hinted recently at the scenario of Durant making his return to the court earlier than expected. (H/T ESPN)

“That’s a $110 million question,” Marks told Newshub in his native New Zealand for an article published Saturday. “In all seriousness, we’ve tried not to talk about his timeline a lot.

“He knows his body better than anybody. Our performance team and training staff have done a tremendous job getting him to this point, but I just don’t know how coming out of this pandemic will affect anybody, let alone Kevin.”

Although Marks did indicate there is a chance that Durant could make his return, he doesn’t want to force the issue. He wants to operate in the manner that is most comfortable for the two-time Finals MVP.

The injury that Durant is returning from is a career-altering situation that could go south if not appropriately handled. The Nets will be open to a return this season if the scenario is there, but don’t expect them to push the star forward to make a rash decision. In other words, the choice is out of their hands.
