Big Ten expected to cancel 2020 football season
The Big Ten will cancel its 2020 college football season on Tuesday because of health and safety concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic. That’s according to The Detroit Free Press.
An official announcement could still come on Monday, as could a change of heart. However the conference’s presidents and chancellors appear poised to end the season before it even begins. This is in spite of the fact the league just announced a schedule and opened fall football camp last week.

According to national radio host Dan Patrick, only Iowa and Nebraska voted to hold a football season this fall. If accurate, it means that Penn State president Eric Barron voted against holding one, though an email sent to a university spokesperson on that topic was not immediately returned.
The list of questions that go along with canceling the season is endless. Will eligibility be extended? Could a spring season be in the works? Can practices continue?

It all will have to be decided in the coming days and weeks and could be part of any reason for a delayed announcement.
Penn State was to continue fall training camp this week in anticipation of a Sept. 5 opener with Northwestern at Beaver Stadium. It was one of 10 games head coach James Franklin’s team was scheduled to play. Now, the plug is being pulled on that slate, with official word from the Big Ten expected in the next 24 hours.
