5 NFL teams most likely to land top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft

These 5 NFL teams could be in for a tough ride in the upcoming 2020 season. We examine who might land the top 2021 NFL draft pick.

5. Carolina Panthers

This is a long shot, but the Panthers have a tough situation on their hands. Carolina is clearly the worst team in what is a loaded NFC South led by Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. This, with a defense which was so bad last year Carolina literally spent every draft pick in 2020 on that side of the ball.

It’s going to be very,  very tough for the Panthers to win in the division, and to stop teams with good offenses.

4. Washington Football Team

Washington is a case of having a good defense (at least on paper) but an offense which wouldn’t scare a Big Ten team. The Football Team has Dwayne Haskins entering his second year under center, but he did little to impress in limited time as a rookie. The question here is whether that’s indicative of what to expect from Haskins moving forward, or if he’ll improve. If it’s the latter, he’ll be doing so with arguably the worst group of weapons in the league.

3. New York Giants

This is a wild card. New York could be one of the more improved teams as second-year quarterback Daniel Jones showed potential last season. However, Jones also turned the ball over at an alarming rate — 18 dumbest and 12 interceptions in 13 games — and if he doesn’t improve there, the anonymous defense isn’t going to stand up to so many short fields and extra possessions.

Also, what to make of first-year head coach Joe Judge? The Giants are obviously hoping for the best, but his no nonsense approach could cause division.

2. New York Jets

Adam Gase has been an unmitigated disaster to this point. The Jets’ offense is relying on a disgruntled running back in Le’Veon Bell, tight end Chris Herndon and a bevy of unknown receivers. This along with quarterback Sam Darnold, who through two seasons has thrown 36 touchdowns against 28 interceptions. Not ideal.

Defensively, linebacker C.J. Mosley opted out and All-Pro safety Jamal Adams was traded to the Seattle Seahawks.

The only saving grace for the Jets is playing in the NFL’s weakest division. Otherwise, they’d have the top spot locked down on this list.

1. Jacksonville Jaguars

Simple explanation here. Jacksonville is in a full-scale rebuild, evidenced by trades of Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye and Calais Campbell over the past 10 months. We could also see Yannick Ngakoue moved soon. The offense is in the hands of Gardner Minshew, who is really Jacksonville’s only hope of playing decent ball in 2020.
