5 NFC teams who have major questions to answer
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
There’s no question the optimism around the Buccaneers is deserved. Tom Brady is coming to Tampa Bay alongside fellow future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski, making an already potent offense one of the leagues best … right?
The question is whether Brady and Gronkowski still have something to give, or if both are on the significant downside? Brady suffered through his worst season in years in 2019, while Gronkowski is coming out of retirement. We’ll soon find out what both have left.
4. Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals have a ton of offensive talent. Kyler Murray looks like the future, while Larry Fitzgerald, DeAndre Hopkins and Christian Kirk combine with running back Kenyan Drake to give Arizona a bevy of weapons.
However, what of the defense in the desert? Arizona drafted Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons in the first round with hopes of him patrolling the middle, but outside of edge rusher Chandler Jones and cornerback Patrick Peterson, questions abound about this unit.
3. Dallas Cowboys
Dallas has a playoff-caliber roster, but is the coach up to par? Mike McCarthy comes in to replace Jason Garrett, who spent the better part of a decade underwhelming on expectations. Now, McCarthy and his Super Bowl XLV ring come to America’s Team, hoping to prove he’s back in name and deed.
The Cowboys have plenty on offense in receivers CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper, along with running back Ezekiel Elliott and quarterback Dak Prescott. But can McCarthy make it all work?
2. Green Bay Packers
We all know the question facing Green Bay. Did the Packers make a huge mistake in not adding more weapons for Aaron Rodgers to utilize on the outside? Right now, it’s Davante Adams and a bunch of guys, not exactly the typical way to please the star quarterback.
If it doesn’t work out this season, there’s going to be talk about blowing up the roster and allowing current rookie quarterback Jordan Love to get more time.
1. Los Angeles Rams
The Rams were the most disappointing team in the NFL last year. After going 13-3 and reaching the Super Bowl in 2018, Los Angeles fell to 9-7 and missed the playoffs, largely because the offense fell apart. Todd Gurley was injured, Jared Goff was pedestrian and the offensive line was poor.
Now, can head coach Sean McVay get Goff back in his old ways, with an entire offseason to adjust for what went wrong in 2019?
