Breonna Taylor Decision Admonished by NBA Players

NBA players won’t stop fighting for justice despite the verdict on the murder of Breonna Taylor, according to Danny Green.

Breonna Taylor (26), was killed by Louisville police during a narcotics raid on March 13. The warrant in question concerned a suspect who did not live at her property.

In the post-Covid, politically recharged resumed NBA season, players have been using their platforms to spread social justice messages. The name Breonna Taylor has been forever on their lips, their shirts, their sneakers as well as their social media channels.

The decision by the Kentucky Grand Jury on Wednesday brought no charges against the Louisville police. The only consequence faced by police were three charges of wanton endangerment for shooting at Taylor’s neighbours’ properties.

“Something was done,” Lakers guard Danny Green said, “but it wasn’t enough.”

“We feel like we’ve taken a step back, that we haven’t made the progress we were seeking,” Green added.

“Our voices aren’t being heard loud enough. But we’re not going to stop. We’re going to continue. We’re going to continue fighting, we’re going to continue to push, we’re going to continue to use our voices.”

LeBron James took to Twitter to express his outrage:

“I’ve been lost for words today! I’m devastated, hurt, sad, mad! We want Justice for Breonna yet justice was met for her neighbors apartment walls and not her beautiful life. Was I surprised at the verdict. Absolutely not but damnit I was & still am hurt and heavy hearted!”

Celtics forward Jaylen Brown pointed out that this is both a race issue as well as a gender issue.

“We have moms. We have sisters, nieces, aunties. And just like men of color have experienced traumatic instances, so have women,” Jaylen Brown said.

“That is an example of some things that happen to women in our country. So, we wanted to stand alongside them, but also make it that it’s not just us. I think the future is female, so it’s important to show our sisters that we care. That’s why it’s been important.”
