Ravens QB Lamar Jackson claims opponents ‘know what we’re doing’

In Lamar Jackson’s first full year as the Baltimore Ravens’ starting quarterback last season, the team took the league by storm. Things have been expectedly more challenging this campaign with opponents better prepared to play against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens.

During an interview on the Rich Eisen Show earlier this week, the reigning league MVP voiced that opposing defenses are calling out Baltimore’s plays. (H/T Jamison Hensley of ESPN)

“They’re calling out our plays, stuff like that,” Jackson said. “They know what we’re doing. Sometimes stuff won’t go our way if they’re beating us to the punch.”

With a full year of the Ravens offense to study with Jackson under center, it provides opposing teams enough to study and prepare to play. The star quarterback may be one of the league’s most dynamic playmakers, but he’s still rounding into form as a passer.

Jackson’s development likely continues to guide him into tendencies that defenses can fully prepare to game plan. What these comments also signal is the Ravens’ need to change things up to offset opponents.

Baltimore still has an explosive offense, but defenses are ready to focus on specific formation and playcalling. There is still the second half of the 2020 season to play, which could see the Ravens work toward shift things up a bit.

The franchise has their focus toward breaking through in the playoffs, which will need Lamar Jackson to become a more significant threat passing the ball. Meanwhile, he has struggled to lead his team back from double-digit deficits. There are areas of needed improvement, which will be vital in pushing them toward Super Bowl contention. With surprise challengers like the Pittsburgh Steelers, it will be tougher this time around.
