Houston Texans In Hot Water Over Deshaun Watson Restaurant Opening

The Houston Texans could be about to receive punishment for violation of state and NFL Covid-19 safety protocols.

A number of players gathered outside of team facilities in violation of regulations and without the knowledge of their coach.

At least six Texans players including quarterback Deshauun Watson attended the grand opening of a restaurant. It was Deshaun Watson’s new cheesesteak franchise Lefty’s, which held it’s opening on Tuesday.

While Watson insists that it was all above board and protocol was followed, it is telling that interim head coach Romeo Crennel had no knowledge of the event.

“I mean, we had the masks,” Watson said. 

“We did everything that we were supposed to do. Six feet from different people. It was a restaurant opening, it wasn’t really an event. It was a grand opening of my restaurant. So people were coming in to get food and things like that and everyone was excited about it. So, it turned out pretty good, and right now from the messages I got from after, it’s still popping.”

The Houston Texans may be safe as far as state law is concerned. However, the NFL’s guidelines clearly state that groups of over three players gathering is prohibited outside of team activities.

Via ESPN, the players in attendance were Deshaun Watson, Tytus Howard, Duke Johnson, Laremy Tunsil, Roderick Johnson, Brandin Cooks and Charles Omenihu.

“I did not see that and I mean, I’m not with these guys 24/7,” Crennel said. 

“When they’re here with us, we wear masks and I encourage them to wear their mask and I was not at that event, so I don’t know what they were doing or why they didn’t have them on or anything like that.”

An NFL spokesperson said the league is aware of the event, but declined to comment.
