Chargers spoke with Urban Meyer about coaching vacancy
The Los Angeles Chargers may very well have a bright future ahead with quarterback Justin Herbert looking like the real deal after his rookie campaign with the team.
Although Herbert vouched for head coach Anthony Lynn, the team decided to move on and fired their head coach. Now the team is searching for his successor with some viable options available, including legendary college coach Urban Meyer.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Chargers haven’t formally interviewed Meyer for their coaching job, but he appears to be an option for Los Angeles even though the Jacksonville Jaguars are the favorite to land him.

Last I heard, no formal interview between the #Chargers and Urban Meyer but when I said yesterday the delay with the #Jaguars was partly due to his exploring all options, this is what I was driving at. https://t.co/LZbGSe6JfM

The Jaguars have been rumored to have the edge in the Meyer sweepstakes. One of the main perks for Meyer in Jacksonville is the fact the team possesses the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, which will almost certainly be Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The major difference between the Chargers and Jaguars is that Herbert has proven he can play at a high level in the NFL while being backed up by a formidable defense. Los Angeles could be a winner as soon as next season. Jacksonville, however, could take some time and may never come to fruition even with Lawrence under center.
Another advantage for the Jaguars is location. Meyer is a Florida legend and will bring an avid fan base to Jacksonville immediately whereas Los Angeles will be a difficult market to counter while competing with the Los Angeles Rams.
