Eric Bienemy Passed Over For Coaching Roles Again
Eric Bienemy will remain the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator for another year after all seven NFL coaching vacancies were filled.
Eric Bienemy has applied for coaching roles in all three years he’s worked under Andy Reid at Kansas City. According to ESPN, the highly rated coach was interviewed for 6 head coaching jobs this year.
The NFL has a well-documented disparity between white coaches and minority coaches. It has a race disparity in general when it comes to African Americans in positions of power.
The Washington Wizards made some headway by appointing Jason Wright as their president. However, Eric Bienemy illustrates that there’s still work to be done.

“I’m not a GM or anything, but I will say coach Bieniemy has helped me out a lot (as) a man, player, just everything I’ve become for the Chiefs’ organization,” Chiefs wideout Tyreek Hill said.
“It’s very shocking that he didn’t get a job. I know deep down inside he’s going to look at himself in the mirror and say, ‘What do I have to do better next year or whenever the case may be?’ He’s that kind of dude. He wants to get better and he wants to become a head coach. His time will come.”
At least Andy Reid will have Bienemy’s help to prepare for the Chiefs’ defense of their Super Bowl title on Feb 7.
“I’m glad I have him [for at least another season], but I’m not so glad I have him,” Reid said.

“I was really hoping he would have an opportunity to take one of these jobs. You guys know what I think of him. I think he’s great. He would be great for any number of teams that opened up and help them win football games and also develop men into men. I just think he’s a great person.”
