NFL free agency 2021: 5 teams with most cap space
While the salary cap may drop in 2021, these five teams have more than enough room to sign some stars in NFL free agency.
5. Cincinnati Bengals ($37.7 million)
The Bengals have work to do on both the defense and offensive line. Defensively, the front office would do well to retain a couple of its best players in cornerback William Jackson III and edge rusher Carl Lawson, both whom are hitting free agency. Up front, rookie quarterback Joe Burrow was battered before tearing his ACL in November. The Bengals must upgrade to keep Burrow safe, potentially looking at guards Joe Thuney and Brandon Scherff, along with tackle Trent Williams.
4. Washington Football Team ($38.2 million)
Washington is in a better position than the rest of the teams on this list, having won its division (albeit with a 7-9 record). The Football Team has an excellent front seven but needs to find some secondary help. Most importantly, though, Washington needs to add weapons to an offense that sin’t much outside of receiver Terry McLaurin and running back Antonio Gibson.

3. New England Patriots ($62.2 million)
No team has more work to do offensively than the Patriots. Bill Belichick watched as his offense failed to account for 10 passing touchdowns, which is why New England figured to be heavily invested in finding a new quarterback with its first-round choice. The Patriots should be in on the litany of receivers hitting the NFL free agency including Allen Robinson, Chris Godwin, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Corey Davis, Kenny Golladay and more.
2. New York Jets ($67.9 million)
The Jets are trying to dig out from a 2-14 season and they have the cap space to do it. General manager Joe Douglas figures to have plenty of calls into top agents this offseason, as New York tries to build an offense for a rookie quarterback to pilot. The Jets have some intriguing receivers in Denzel Mims and Jamison Crowder, but could use an upgrade on the offensive line. Defensively, New York desperately needs pass rush. Maybe Matthew Judon or Yannick Ngakoue from the Baltimore Ravens makes sense.

1. Jacksonville Jaguars ($77.6 million)
Jacksonville is about to add Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, so it’s time to start building the offensive line. The Jaguars struggled up front in 2020, but luckily have weapons in receivers D.J. Chark and Laviska Shenault along with rookie running back James Robinson. Jacksonville, armed with the league’s most cap space and two first-round picks, should be quite active.
