Steelers want Ben Roethlisberger back for 2021 NFL season
The Pittsburgh Steelers were a dominant football team for most of the 2020 NFL season. Their form had many believing they were a legitimate Super Bowl title contender. Unfortunately, things didn’t pan out the way they anticipated. As a result, Ben Roethlisberger started to look like a quarterback nearing the end of his career.
Roethlisberger didn’t end the season on a high note. Nor did he instill confidence in what he could do in 2021. However the Steelers appear to want him back under center for next season. Team president Art Rooney II said the following about his quarterback after meeting with the two-time Super Bowl champion this week via ESPN.

“Ben Roethlisberger and I met yesterday morning and we had a productive meeting” Rooney said. “We were able to discuss a lot of things that relate to where we are and where we want to go. Ben assured me that he is committed to coming back to help us win, and I told Ben that we would like to have him back to help us win a championship. We both understand that the next step is to work out Ben’s contract situation.”

With the Steelers brass seemingly ready to commit to Roethlisberger for another season, the team has many other areas to address before the start of the 2021 campaign. Star wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is set to hit free agency. He will be a hot commodity on the open market although he has expressed a desire to stay in Pittsburgh.
It’ll be interesting to see whether the Steelers franchise goes from here as they aim to compete with Roethlisberger under center for at least one more season.
