Carson Wentz Has a Different Arsenal In Indianapolis
New Colts quarterback Carson Wentz anticipates having a high pass completion percentage playing in the Indianapolis offense next season.
This is due to their style of play that sees them spread the football around the team. Indy’s past three starting quarterbacks – Luck, Rivers, Brissett, all enjoyed career-high or second-highest completion under head coach Frank Reich.
As he gets to grips with the playbook, Wentz can see he will have a variety of reliable options on the field.
“I see that completely being the same way this year,†Wentz said. “Because it’s never a one-man show out there. I’m gonna throw the ball where it’s supposed to go on each play.â€

Will that be enough to limit the amount of times he gets sacked? Carson Wentz was sacked 50 times in just 12 games last year. This is unlike Philip Rivers, who had a knack for making quick passes to retain the ball.
Wentz is more mobile than Rivers, and might be able to use his body to get out of more sticky situations. As well as that, he can throw further, which has already impressed his new teammates.
Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr was impressed by Wentz’s deep balls at workouts in California back in March. “I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I really gotta dig down and run,†Pittman recalls.
“I don’t know where it [ranks] in the league, but I’ve played with enough quarterbacks,†said Nyheim Hines. “He has a really pretty deep ball. I’ve liked everything I’ve seen from him so far.â€

The fact he knows Reich and receivers coach Mike Groh from their time together in Philadelphia is also helping Wentz to settle in.
“He comes in and asks about my family, my sister and things like that,†running back Nyheim Hines added. “As a new guy, it’s pretty cool. It shows that he’s caring and trying to take care of us.â€
