Jordan Love has big opportunity with Packers
Green Bay Packers second-year quarterback Jordan Love has a major opportunity staring at him come training camp.
Aaron Rodgers is the storyline heading into Green Bay Packers training camp. Yet it could be his understudy which ends up garnering much of the attention come August.
Jordan Love didn’t play as a rookie out of Utah State, sitting behind the eventual 2020 NFL MVP. Now, Rodgers is potentially holding out either for the start or maybe even deep into camp. As a result Love has a chance to get myriad reps with the first-team offense.

The Packers certainly would rather see Rodgers under center both in camp and certainly the regular season. Meanwhile the team brass should quietly be excited about seeing the youngster and his maturation process.
On Wednesday, star receiver Davante Adams talked to Fox News, and mentioned that while it would be premature to make declarations about Love, he’s happy with what he’s seen to this point.
“Well, it’s really, really early. We’ve seen some progress, but obviously, when you get into live action and do a little more training camp stuff, you’ll be able to further evaluate that, but I like what I see from him so far. He’s shown that he’s locked in and ready to assume whatever role that he has to and go out there and play, so I’m looking forward to seeing him.”

For Love, the practices without Rodgers represent a time to forge bonds and create chemistry with the team’s best weapons. There’s a chance Rodgers ends up playing every meaningful snap for Green Bay in 2021. There’s also the chance he gets traded or decides not to return to the club. In either of those events, Love would be far more prepared to play well, raising his stock while also making veterans like Adams — who is set for free agency after this season — think about a future that doesn’t include Rodgers.
Any realistic hope for Green Bay of getting to the Super Bowl would be dashed if Rodgers doesn’t play. However, Love earning playing time in training camp and the preseason is a win-win for team and player.
Ultimately, Love must take advantage of any opportunity he’s granted, while the Packers can both hope he plays lights out, while also hoping No. 12 returns in short order.
