Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald doesn’t have ‘urge to play right now’
Since the end of the 2020 season, the Arizona Cardinals have kept the door open with future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald.
The star wide receiver still hasn’t committed to whether he will play the 2021 campaign in Arizona. However, he recently provided a significant update voicing to Jim Gray for the latest episode of SiriusXM’s “Let’s Go” that he just doesn’t hold the desire to play right now.

“For now, I’ll be a radio broadcaster,” Fitzgerald replied. “Jim, to be honest with you, I just don’t have the urge to play right now. I don’t know how I’ll feel in September, October, November moving forward, but I just, today, I just don’t have the urge. And I think I have to be respectful of that. Football is not one of those games you want to walk out there and play and not be fully engaged and ready to prepare and do the things necessary that you need to do.”
It doesn’t entirely shut the door close, but it shows that he isn’t in the mindset at the moment to extend his career another season. He could decide to return at some point in the 2021 campaign.

The Cardinals will leave the option open to the future first-ballot Hall of Famer. It’s likely that he doesn’t want to go through the physical grind of the offseason with the workouts and training camp.
He will have full control over his fate in Arizona as the team is confident he will be in shape and ready to go if he decides to play. Until then, the star wideout won’t be in a Cardinals’ uniform to begin the 2021 season.
