Dak Prescott says he’s healthy before Buccaneers game

If the Dallas Cowboys are going to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, it’ll take a Dak Prescott masterclass.

Dak Prescott is going to be put to the ultimate test on Thursday night.

Less than a week from now, the Dallas Cowboys will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For Prescott, it’ll be an emotional experience. The last time the Cowboys’ quarterback was on a field, he was being carted off after breaking and dislocating his ankle against the NewYork Giants in AT&T Stadium during Week 5 of last season.

Now, Prescott returns and on the national stage. The Cowboys are entering 2021 with significant expectations from some. They take on Tom Brady and the defending champs to kick it off.

While Prescott didn’t play a single snap throughout the preseason as he recovered from the ankle and mended from a new shoulder injury, the signal-caller painted himself as unconcerned during his media session on Friday, per NFL.com:

“I’m excited to have that behind me. I don’t think about the time that I’ve missed. I was just laughing the other day with a teammate about the moment that it happened. To be that far beyond it, I’m just excited to get back to football.”

For the Cowboys to beat the Buccaneers — who are 7.5-point favorites in the affair — it’ll take a Herculean effort from Prescott. Dallas has the firepower to stay in the game, featuring running back Ezekiel Elliott and receivers CeeDee Lamb, Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. However, the Cowboys have to contend with one of the league’s best defenses, including a pass rush which has Ndamukong Suh, Vita Vea, Shaquil Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul as the front four.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy would be well-advised to get the ball out quickly using his short passing game. Thus allowing Lamb, Gallup and Cooper to win quickly against corners Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis. From there, run after the catch will loom large, allowing Dallas to stay in manageable situations.

However, if the Cowboys can’t contain the Bucs’ ferocious pass rush, Prescott will be forced to showcase his repaired ankle and make plays on the move. It’s not ideal, but especially if Dallas’ defense gives way, it could be the reality.

For Prescott, there won’t be any easing into the season. As a result for the Cowboys to win, he must be at his best.
