Buffalo Bills face early test against Dolphins on Sunday
If the Buffalo Bills are going to challenge for the AFC’s top seed, beating the Miami Dolphins this Sunday would be enormous.Â
It’s only Week 2, but the Buffalo Bills need a win.
Of course, the Bills could lose to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, fall to 0-2, and still be fine. In 2019, the Baltimore Ravens began 2-2 and rattled off 12 straight wins to earn the AFC’s No. 1 seed. The Bills, much like those Ravens, are capable of a huge run.

However, looking at the AFC and Buffalo’s schedule, another loss in a winnable game would be crushing.
In Week 1, the Bills lost at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 23-16 defeat. Now, Josh Allen and Co. visit the Dolphins, who are coming off a 17-16 win over the New England Patriots in Foxboro.
With a loss, Buffalo would be two games behind the Dolphins with a poor tiebreaker outlook. And that’s only. for the division. As for the conference, the Bills could easily be two games behind the Kansas City Chiefs, who play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football in Charm City, but are favorites to beat the injury-ravaged hosts.
In Week 5, the Bills play the Chiefs on Sunday night at Arrowhead Stadium. While that’s a great opportunity to make up ground (should that be the case), it’s also one of Buffalo’s two toughest games on paper, with the other being a late-season visit to Tampa Bay to take on Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.

If Buffalo loses to the Dolphins and Chiefs, and runs the table otherwise, Kansas City would still need to lose four games for the Bills to overtake them.
Yes, all of this is speculative and certainly very early. Buffalo could catch some breaks, the Chiefs could get injured or simply lose some surprise contests and so forth. After all, it’s Week 2. It’s so, so early.
And yet the Bills don’t want to put themselves in position to hope things go sideways for a Chiefs team which is led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a man who through 3+ seasons has lost eight regular-season games.
There are no must-win games in Week 2. The Bills have their entire season ahead of them, win or lose.
However, a misstep in Miami and Buffalo has to reel off a litany of victories at some point to have the AFC playoffs going through western New York.
