Colts QB Carson Wentz dealing with sprains in both ankles

The Indianapolis Colts have quickly fallen into a 0-2 start to the 2021 season.

The Colts have continued to pile up with much of the focus on former Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz. During the disappointing 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2 action, Wentz suffered a right ankle injury after being tackled by star defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

The 28-year-old missed the last few minutes of the fourth quarter due to the injury, leading rookie Jacob Eason to play in his place. Eason struggled in the team’s last two drives, including throwing an interception to Jalen Ramsey that essentially sealed the loss.

The Colts’ problems don’t end there as Wentz is reportedly dealing with sprains in both ankles and is undergoing more testing to determine the extent of the injuries. It’s been a rough few weeks for him as he’s dealt with health issues.

Wentz missed a sizable portion of training camp due to having surgery on his left foot. He was also forced to sit out practice for a few days due to being on the COVID-19 list. This is because he was in close contact with someone who tested positive.

The Colts will gather more clarity concerning Wentz’s health after the tests on his ankles. If he cannot give it a go in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans, expect Eason to get the first crack to step in as the starter.

The Colts will also likely lean more heavily on the running game led by Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines.
