NFL Week 5 odds: Making a case for each underdog

It’s time to glance at the NFL Week 5 odds and figure out how each underdog can cover their spreads and perhaps even win outright.

Los Angeles Rams (-2.5) at Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are home and the defense gave its best showing on Sunday in a win over the 49ers. They can replicate that performance here.

New York Jets at Atlanta Falcons (-3)

The game is in London, making it a neutral site game. New York isn’t good, but neither is Atlanta.

Denver Broncos at Pittsburgh Steelers (-1)

The Broncos are two games better than Pittsburgh in the standings. Denver has the superior quarterback as well provided Teddy Bridgewater can play.

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings (-7.5)

The Lions have come close to winning a few times, and the Vikings, despite their immense talent, consistently play poor football. Expect a very close divisional game.

Green Bay Packers (-3) at Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati is coming off 10 days of rest and are at home. Green Bay’s offense is great, but the defense can be had and the Bengals have ample weapons.

Miami Dolphins at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-10)

Miami isn’t winning, but its defense could do enough to limit Tom Brady in the passing game.

New England Patriots (-9) at Houston Texans

Do you believe in miracles?

New Orleans Saints (-2) at Washington Football Team

Washington could be the better team. Taylor Heinicke is playing well and at some point, Washington’s loaded defense has to start playing better.

Philadephia Eagles at Carolina Panthers (-3.5)

The Eagles stayed competitive with the Chiefs for 50 minutes and almost beat the 49ers in Week 2. They’re capable of taking down a hurting Carolina squad.

Tennessee Titans (-4) at Jacksonville Jaguars

The Titans just lost to the Jets and are all banged up. With 10 days to prepare, the Jaguars could outright win.

Chicago Bears at Las Vegas Raiders (-5.5)

If Justin Fields plays, he gives Chicago a unique weapon both in the air and on the ground. Plus, can the Raiders bounce back on a short week?

Cleveland Browns at Los Angeles Chargers (-1.5)

The Chargers are also on a short week and have almost no home-field advantage. They’re also awful against the run, which isn’t great facing Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb.

San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals (-5.5)

The 49ers are dealing with uncertainty under center, but the defense is terrific and the Cardinals, despite being unbeaten, are scattershot.

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys (-7)

New York has been in every game it has played. Don’t expect anything different in an NFC East battle.

Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs (-2.5)

The Bills have the league’s best defense and over the past three weeks are averaging almost 40 points per game. They’re playing like the better team.

Indianapolis Colts at Baltimore Ravens (-7)

The Colts will be desperate and has the front seven to cause problems for Lamar Jackson.
