Nets still fielding trade offers for All-Star guard Kyrie Irving
Through the first quarter of the 2021-22 campaign, the Brooklyn Nets have pushed their way toward the best record in the Eastern Conference.
The Nets have accomplished that without star point guard Kyrie Irving, whose refusal to take the COVID-19 vaccine has kept him away from the team. It has led the front office to consider moving off Irving, according to Ian Begley of SNY.
To that end, it’s worth noting that, as of late last month, Brooklyn remained open to talking trades involving Irving, per SNY sources… In the weeks following [the previous report], several teams said Brooklyn has continued to take that approach with the All-Star guard.
It shouldn’t come as a total surprise, given that the team has had sustained success without him while he hasn’t budged toward taking the vaccine. The rest of the team has gone that route, leaving him out of the mix without a timetable for a return.The nets are not actively looking to move Irving but appear to be open to moving him if an appealing trade offer presents itself. The 29-year-old is in the third year of his four-year, 136.4 million deal that includes a $36.5 million player option for the final year.

That alone leaves the door open to Irving testing the open market next offseason, especially with how things have unfolded this campaign. The Nets could move heavily into the open market if the situation remains the same near the trade deadline.
Ultimately, it’s a situation that the Nets will keep a close eye on over the next few months.
