Cardinals fire head coach Kliff Kingsbury after four seasons
With the 2022 season in the books, the Arizona Cardinals have quickly taken action to move the franchise forward.
Arizona announced that the organization fired head coach Kliff Kingsbury after four seasons, where he held a 28-37-1 overall record. The Cardinals made the playoffs once over that span, but team owner Michael Bidwill wants a shift in the culture.
“We all thought over the last three seasons or the prior three seasons that we would take the next step up after having achieved a playoff appearance last year. It didn’t happen,” Bidwill said via ESPN. “The people in this room and our fans know all the reasons why, dating back to last year, that different factors worked against us. Still not an excuse. And we expected better, I expected better and we deserve better. And that’s what our community wants. It’s what our fans want, it’s what the players want, it’s what everybody in this organization wants.”
Bidwill added that Kingsbury’s contract extension 10 months also didn’t factor into the equation. The Cardinals never took a step forward, and need a new coach to bring a fresh perspective and game plan.
Meanwhile, general manager Steve Keim will no longer hold his position after offering his resignation last week. Keim had taken a leave from the position a month ago to focus on his health.
