Terrence Ross expected to sign with the Phoenix Suns

With the trade deadline come and gone, the buyout market around the NBA has begun to take shape. After days of speculation, the Orlando Magic are headed toward a contract buyout with veteran guard Terrence Ross.

Initial reports suggested that the Dallas Mavericks were the frontrunners to land Terrence Ross. However that has quickly changed as he is expected to sign with the Phoenix Suns.

The opportunity to join a Suns team that now features star forward Kevin Durant was likely what drew the 32-year-old’s attention. Ross has dealt with lingering trade and buyout speculation over the last few years, but nothing came about until last week.

He has developed into a dependable backcourt factor behind his athleticism and 3-point shooting, hitting at a 36.2% career clip. His addition will strengthen the Suns’ depth that lost Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges via the Durant trade.

Ross can immediately swoop in to provide a strong factor off the bench that could be a pivotal factor in the Suns’ NBA title push. As long he finalizes his buyout by March, he will be eligible to be on his next team’s playoff roster.

Durant’s arrival has immediately put the target on Phoenix’s back as the championship betting favorite in the Western Conference.

The Suns have the potential to quickly become a powerhouse once Durant returns from his knee injury. Phoenix is sitting in the fourth spot in the West at a 31-27 record only four games behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the second overall spot.
