Chiefs make Matt Nagy new offensive coordinator
Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s decision to leave the Kansas City Chiefs for the Washington Commanders for a similar position left the franchise with a spot to fill.
The Chiefs didn’t take long to find their replacement with Matt Nagy receiving the opportunity. Nagy previously served in that role in 2016 and 2017. He did well enough to take the head coach position with the Chicago Bears.
He returned to Kansas City for the 2022 campaign after being let go by the Bears. The decision to hire within allows the Chiefs to have a familiar face working alongside head coach Andy Reid.

Bieniemy’s departure will impact the team’s playcalling, but it won’t be an insurmountable difference. The Chiefs also hold the benefit of possessing arguably the league’s best quarterback in Patrick Mahomes.
Kansas City went through a notable offensive change in 2022 after Tyreek Hill was traded to the Miami Dolphins. The front office brought aboard several players such as JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, but the offense didn’t skip a beat.
The Chiefs are hoping for much of the same ahead, especially with several of these players such as Valdes-Scantling and Kadarius Toney likely taking on increased roles within the passing game.

Kansas City will enter the 2023 season as the Super Bowl favorite despite the likes of the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills creeping up as the biggest threats to dethrone them.
As long as Mahomes is under center, a change at offensive coordinator won’t shift the expectations with the Chiefs.
