Warriors’ Chris Paul claims beef with Scott Foster is ‘personal’
Golden State Warriors star point guard Chris Paul experienced his seventh career ejection on Wednesday after getting into a verbal spat with longtime NBA referee Scott Foster.
It’s well known that Paul and Foster have a documented history over their time together since Paul entered the league. The 38-year-old voiced after Wednesday’s game that there are some personal issues between him and Foster that he believes influenced his ejection.
“It’s personal,” Paul said via ESPN. “We had a situation some years ago and it’s personal. The league knows. Everybody knows. There was a meeting and all of that. … I’m OK with a ref saying whatever they’re saying, but don’t use a tech to get your point across.”
The ejection occurred with 23 seconds left in the quarter after Paul vocally disagreed with the foul Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant drew on him. The star point guard continued to jaw back and forth with Foster, leading to the veteran referee to give Paul two technical fouls that resulted in an automatic ejection.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr stood up for his point guard by verbally getting into it with Foster, but it didn’t escalate to more than that.

Paul has a long history with Foster, which features him losing 13 consecutive playoff games when the veteran referee is the crew chief. Beyond that, he holds a 3-17 record dating back to 2008 when Foster calls his games.
There are plenty of lingering issues between the two that remain unresolved after this latest episode.
