Knicks lose OG Anunoby for an extended period of time
After a busy trade deadline, the New York Knicks took a tough hit with forward OG Anunoby undergoing surgery to remove a loose bone fragment in his right elbow.
Anunoboy is expected to resume basketball activities in three weeks and for the final stretch of the regular season and playoff run.
“We tried to approach it with rest first, and then you trust the medical [staff], you trust him, and this was the best course of action,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said before Dallas beat New York at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night via ESPN.
“It seemed to make the most sense to all of us. So that’s part of it … You deal with it, and next guy get in there, get the job done.”
Since the Knicks acquired Anunoby, the team won 12 out of the first 14 games with him on the floor. In his short stint with New York, he’s averaging 15.6 points and 4.6 rebounds along with shooting 39 percent from beyond the arc.
The Knicks are already dealing with Julius Randle as he’s recovering from a separated shoulder. The injury problems led New York to make the trade deadline move to acquire Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons.

Bogdanovic adds much-needed scoring and shooting from deep while Burks brings another playmaker and ball handler to the mix.
The Knicks have been one of the league’s hottest teams over the last month, rising to the fourth-best record in the East, sitting only two games out of the second overall spot.
