Jake Browning: Bengals Can ‘Go Make A Run At It’
The Cincinnati Bengals could be relying on backup quarterback Jake Browning to start the 2024 season. Thankfully, he cut his NFL teeth last year.
Jake Browning started the final seven games of 2023 due to Joe Burrow’s wrist injury. In four wins, Jake Browning led the league with a completion percentage of 70.4.
He threw for 12 touchdowns and averaged 266.9 passing yards per start – more than Burrow’s 230.9.
The Bengals have been overly reliant on Joe Burrow in recent years and the data bares this out starkly. When Burrow plays ten or more games, they make the playoffs. When he doesn’t, they don’t.

Browning says his experience as a backup will aid the Bengals in their hunt for the Super Bowl.
“Obviously, (Burrow is) an unbelievable player, right? He’s one of the best in the NFL, and no one’s going to debate that,” Browning said. “But for me, I’ve got some strengths, too. I’m sure there are different things where he’s like, ‘Oh, OK, that’s how you did this.’
“And there’s those conversations that — I was always helpful before, but there’s a whole other level of, ‘Hey, I’ve been in this offense, and I’ve had to be the trigger guy.’ And so when he has some concern or something, I can relate and we can have that conversation.”

“I think that’s been really good for me and him,” Browning said. “It’s just trying to get as much improvement in the offseason, get everybody where we want to be and all be on the same page and go make a run at it.”
